Team Merlo donned their aprons and hairnets to help The Common Good sell over 127,000 Strawberry Sundaes at the EKKA this August. With only a few hours of volunteering required to make a big difference to many, staff jumped at the opportunity.
The Common Good relies heavily on the funds raised by the sale of Strawberry Sundaes at the EKKA each year to assist them with life changing medial research. The profits from nine days of sundae making will support over 3,500 hours of life changing medical research into heart disease, lung disease, mental health and dementia.
The Common Good supports the tireless work of researchers who are committed to making breakthrough research and rely heavily on time to make medical breakthroughs that in turn go onto to save people’s lives.
Medical research relies on funding, and every $48 that is donated to The Common Good is equal to 1 hour of research time. Everyone who donates to the research is kept informed as to how and where the time is being used.
As a long-term supporter of The Common Good, Team Merlo was only too happy to help out when the call came for volunteers. Giving back is at the core of what we do as an organisation and our staff are always keen to assist.
Volunteering for our partner organisations give staff the opportunity to use their skills in other ways, while knowing they are helping others along the way.
For Merlo its about corporate social responsibility and supporting those who need it most.
On average, the volunteers served up 18 sundaes very minute over the EKKA across the nine days. On our shift alone the team helped create over 5,500 sundaes, a very worthwhile Sunday indeed.
