COFFEE TRAINING CLASSES

At Merlo we live and breathe coffee, and our coffee training in Brisbane is a testament to that devotion. The expertise we've cultivated over the years and our legacy as coffee connoisseurs are all packaged into these classes.

All classes are led by skilled professionals with years of experience. From understanding the bean to perfecting the pour, you'll be guided by people passionate about sharing their knowledge. All our training classes are held at our Brisbane Training Centre in Fortitude Valley or at one of our Merlo Flagship Cafe's.

Learn the foundations of espresso coffee making, grinder and machine knowledge, how to dose, tamp and extract coffee.

We'll also cover how to texturise milk and pour the classic café menu, as well as teach you how to run a coffee station on shift maintain and clean a machine.

DURATION: 1.5 - 2 hours (depending on group size)

Tackle the next level of barista skills while reinforcing the foundations. We'll cover dosing and distribution, grind management and adjustment, and how to identify over, under and perfect extractions.

We’ll also run through working with alternative milks and give you some tips to enhance your latte art abilities.

DURATION: 1.5 - 2 hours (depending on group size)

Cupping in the coffee world is similar to a wine tasting. It is a globally recognised, industry-wide process where coffees are critically evaluated to identify specific flavours, qualities and pick out any faults.

This process allows us to maintain the quality and consistency of our coffee, as well as provides an opportunity to review new single origins for our Bean of the Month program.

DURATION: 1.5 hours – 2 hours (depending on group size)

Manual brewing at home is easy, inexpensive, and a fantastic way to experiment with different techniques. This makes it equally popular among both beginners and coffee professionals. Learn how to brew coffee using a V60, Aeropress, Stovetop, and Syphon.

Join us for a discussion on the benefits and differences of each brewing method over complementary light refreshments. Participants will also receive a 125g take-home pack of beans.

Depending on what machine you use at home, we will tailor the training to suit you with this fantastic one-on-one class. Whether you have a domestic or a semi-commercial machine, we will help you make a great coffee.

Using one of our demonstration machines you will learn how to use and care for a machine and grinder, how to make the perfect extraction, the art of steaming milk, and basic cleaning procedures.

DURATION: 1 hour
COST: $90 per person
PREREQUISITE: None
LOCATION: can be held at our Fortitude Valley, Bowen Hills, Southport, Paddington and Coorparoo Flagship Cafe's.
