A stunning single origin from coffee’s heartland, our September Bean of the Month Ethiopia Yirgacheffe scored 87/100 at cupping, placing it in the Excellent Specialty range.
Certified Organic and Fair Trade, this high altitude coffee is mindfully raised using traditional agricultural methods in the forests of Gedeo, Southern Ethiopia.
Ripe cherries are hand-picked and naturally processed, the beans inside becoming infused with the flavour of the red fruit as it dries in the warm air circulating the raised netting beds.
TASTING NOTES
An exceptional Ethiopian coffee, the Yirgacheffee hits all the classic notes you’d expect from this coveted coffee origin.
Freshly roasted and ground, the beans release a heady fragrance of strawberries and tropical fruit - hinting at what’s to come in the cup.
Flavours are rich and complex, a sweet mix of honeycomb, candied cherry and mango which plays beautifully against the sparkling acidity.
Medium bodied, the aftertaste is a hallmark of excellent Ethiopian coffee: jasmine tea.
Brew Recommendations
Filter: to bring out the sparkling acidity and tea-like delicacy under all that sweet fruit and honeycomb, we recommend a V60 or similar device, poured low and slow.
Espresso: look for jammy sweetness when dialling in your espresso shots, there should be a big burst of tropical fruit from the first sip, with the lighter flavours coming through in the finish.
