Forza is Italian for strength and force and this blend delivers both, with big flavours and a little extra buzz. We’ve added oomph by mixing a small amount of high-quality Robusta coffee beans - the original Coffee plant which has more caffeine - into an Arabica coffee bean base.
The recipe for this big and bold blend starts with a Brazilian single origin coffee, chosen for its full-bodied flavours of chocolate and roasted nuts.
Indonesian beans are added for their intense dried fruit aromatics and oak flavour, which is tempered by a toffee sweet Kenyan with clean and crisp acidity.
The two Papua New Guinean single origins we’ve chosen play off against each other – the sweet and smooth milk chocolate and honey of the Bourbon Arusha varietals balances the strong flavours of the Robusta, brought in for its extra caffeine.
Merlo’s Forza coffee beans are a favourite of those of us who want a blend that delivers a kickstart with big body and classic coffee taste.
When prepared on an espresso machine, the Forza blend’s fierce flavours cut through the milkiness of lattes and cappuccinos, and the oak and toffee flavours really shine.
Several long term customers have told us that a plunger made on Forza, served with a dash of milk, is the perfect morning ritual before taking on the world, and some even bolder characters brew it Italian style on a stovetop, for a rocket of a short black.
Whichever way you have it, Forza is not for the faint of heart.
Roasted daily in our Brisbane warehouse, the Forza coffee blend is a medium-dark roast created from carefully sourced origin coffees from around the world. Each component is cupped on arrival to our roastery and put through stringent grading to ensure that we maintain the flavour and quality Merlo has become famous for in every batch.
Coffee harvests change from year to year, so we work hard on adapting our recipe components to craft the flavour our coffee drinkers know and love.
Each single origin coffee has an important role to play, and the flavours we look for are created by the varietal of coffee tree chosen by the coffee farmer, the altitude the crop is grown at, and most importantly the passion of our partner producers for specialty coffee.
Great coffee doesn’t just happen: it’s painstakingly crafted by people who believe in it, from those who work the soil to the person taking their first sip.
